About Sturkö Island

Sturkö is the biggest island in the east archipelago of Karlskrona.
According to Ole Worm, a Danish historian in the 17:th century, has the island got its name ”probably because that stork birds often come together and build their nests there”, a theory about how the name was established that we like to believe in.

The island has a connection with the mainland by Senoren and Möcklö. It takes about 25 minutes by car and it is about 30 km from the city of Karlskrona.

The island is a very popular goal for people, travelling by bicycle and motor cars and we has a very popular camping here. For they who wish to stay a little bit longer and enjoy the environment more then just for one day. The camping offers more then tenting and camping places, you can hire cottages and they also has a restaurant so you can relax more in your holiday with us.

Here is still some unexploited places for those who want to enjoy our wonderful archipelago environment.
For they who come with a boat there is a few guest places to rent in the Sanda harbour at the west side of the island.

The island got very much attention in the world media 1981, when the Russian submarine U137 went on the rocks immediately east of  the island.

Welcome to us, how ever you come!
